again?

So there was another police investigation in the subway today. What the hell. Is this gonna be a regular thing? 'Cuz it's really getting in the way of my psycho internal timeliness. I was still on time for everything today - but didn't get there when I had planned to!

I only had three castings today, and a million different songs in my head.
I like to sing really loud when the trains come because no one can hear me.
I think.
And then I laugh at myself & hope no one is watching. Life should always be like this.

shout at the devil

I just finished being the Devil.

It was for a magazine in London - a Tarot card story. One of the guys there brought his Tarot cards. He did a spread for me when I was done on set. I liked what the cards had to say - mostly. To be honest, the reading told me things I already feel are happening. That made me like it even better.

...apres shoot merci beaucoup

I left the apartment extra early this morning, giving myself over an hour and a half to get to my job. I'm lucky I did, because the train got held up about a half an hour underground (freaky) because of a police investigation at my stop. Go figure...the one stop I need to get to is blocked off. Time for an impromptu re-route off the top of my head. Lesson: Do not rely on your planned route - or a picture of a map you took with your i-pod. Make sure you take a photo of the whole area and every station close by so you can find a new way to where you gotta go in case of a dilemna. Write it down too, cuz technology likes to malfunction when you need it most. Lucky for me I was only 3 minutes late and everyone else had the same problem.

Phew.

Maybe it happened cuz I was channeling the Devil....trying to get ready for the role of a lifetime ;)

Elle Girl Korea

Just wrapped up a little editorial with a couple other lovely ladies for Elle Girl magazine in Korea.

We went all over, but got to shoot one look at Times Square on the big red stairs. Lots of tourists! We also posed in a subway station and outside with some New York Firefighters. It certainly gained a lot of attention. How New York!
Pretty fun, laid back day. The sun even came out for us a little.

The latest

We gotta bit of snow the other night...

There is a car in there somewhere

I had a beauty editorial shoot yesterday. Really great crew and I can't wait to see the results. Will keep you posted!

Today I had a casting for Forever 21. Cool, cuz I'm forever 21 in model years.

I met two great girls from my agency. They're from Africa. We're going to go see Black Swan and drink some delicious red wine tonight. Perfecto! Let the good times roll.

My roommate just started jamming on the ukulele. Today is gonna be good!

Some shots from this week...

I moved! This is my room. I'm staying in a really cozy neighbourhood, with charismatic cafes and inviting pubs and live music and a cool new roommate who mixes a mean vintage cocktail and owns a million records =)I should look happier in that picture!

a whole new world

Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.

they named her Britt.

Just Britt.

and I'm happy for it.

they made me dance

Yesterday I had a casting for Bullet Magazine. They were filming each girl and asked us to dance...while about 20 other models watched. They said to be as wild as we want. I watched about 9 girls before me and they all looked pretty uncomfortable. I felt weird about it too...

It was my turn and I danced up a storm. I don't know what came over me...maybe it was the coffee I had just consumed and I needed an outlet to spew all my caffeinated quirks and nervous energy. All of a sudden I was like F it and I busted moves I didn't even know I had in me. I just stopped caring. In a good way.
I wish I could have that video tape.

The casting crew looked refreshed, but maybe I mistook their faces for total shock and utter horror. Yet to be determined.

sickie

This week was exhausting! Running back and forth, up and down, east and west in the freezing cold 9 hours a day makes you sick. Who knew? I had a beauty editorial on Sunday, and the next day was wet and snowy and I caught myself a nasty chest cold. You guessed it. The donkey wheeze. Cute! That's exactly what I want to bust out at castings in New York. They better not make me laugh cuz it's almost a guaranteed donkey honk followed by a cupped hand over mouth and a surprised look on face. I am downing vitamins, water, honey and tea, cough syrup, and made a soup full of garlic, asparagus, broccoli and mushrooms, which turned out delicious by the way. I had a killer fever the other night and one of my Russian roomies brought me a Russian mystery tea that was supposed to help, and it really did. I have no idea what it was. It was murky and brown and although she is very sweet the thought crossed my mind that maybe she was trying to have one less roommate. I am getting nervous and paranoid working in this industry! Don't worry, she had good intentions, and I didn't really doubt it ;)

A weak recap

A weak recap for the week.
It was fun.

Imagine that is all I left you with?

I had tons of castings this week, which is good. I am getting good at this subway thing too. I have never been to a city with this many lines. Some highlights were castings for V Magazine and Surface, and meeting photographer Tony Kim who is a fantastic person to be around.
I have had a lot of really great casting requests. Now here is hoping they actually liked me in person...

this is only a dream....

I've seen New York on TV and in movies my whole life and I think I kind of forgot that it's a real place.

I like it. And I like listening to New Yorkers.

I had a couple hours before my last casting today so I decided to stroll a bit. Made my way down 5th Ave and checked out Rockefeller Centre and Radio City Music Hall. Sauntered through FAO Schwarz and Trump Tower, and caught the subway by Central Park en route to my last appointment. I want to go to Jersey and peek through the window of the bakery from "Cake Boss". I can do that you know, 'cuz I'm here.
Here are some shots from today...

Yesterday I had about nine castings. One was for Teen Vogue at Times Square. That made me happy cuz I feel like it's been a while since I was a teenager. It's exciting. I am Benjamin Button. Benjamin Britton in Times Square. I feel like I am going to have so much more fun here...

I've been too tired to cook once back at the model house, so I have been dining on yogurt, fruit, juice boxes,
the gummy vitamins that I had requested for Christmas (Santa kindly obliged), almonds, oatmeal, and frozen meals- I actually found a couple that weren't too bad and are full of veggies and can be heated in the oven. I hate microwaves. Something about them gives me a feeling like I'm about to be hit by a train. Not good.

It's supposed to snow a foot tonight, so that should make commuting interesting tomorrow....

*IMPROTANT NOTE* I would totally work at FAO Schwarz. Best toy store ever complete with $25,ooo Barbie foosball table.

Barbie fashion show on a conveyor belt...this girl didn't look away the whole time I saw her...

first day in NYC

Well, my first day in New York was not what I had anticipated. I had visions of my usual first encounter with a new agency in a new city, scrambling to find my way in time to get some ins and outs and crucial details for navigating around before I strip down into a little bikini for some fresh digital snap shots. This was not the case today! I was booked for an editorial which was a lovley surprise. It was a pretty nice way to start the trip. I always worry if I am going to work at all my first two weeks on any trip so booking a job before I even left my house to go to the airport was a super duper kick ass surprise. I hope it's a glimpse into a month or so of gaining a decent amount of NYC interest and a significant amount of bookings!!! Fingers crossed.

Here is a photo I took on my way to set.
*First photo in New York!!

My apartment is nice - much better than some I have stayed in prior to this trip. I have a room to myself at the moment but that will soon change. I am enjoying it though and hoping it lasts a couple more days!

By now

I should be good at packing for big trips but i'm not.

why am i not getting better at this? it's a mystery.

you'd think id have the hang of it by now. i am a chronic overpacker. and if i pack a few nights before i leave or even the day before, i will still sneak more things inside right before i fly. for heavens sake i am going to new york. pretty sure i can shop.

fix this.
